From Simba’s foster

“🧡 Morning Simba Update 🧡

Just talked to the vet. She said even with continuous IV fluids and the dextrose, his blood sugar dropped overnight, once to the 30s, then again to the 50s. He’s also leaking diarrhea and she said has been spending most of the night on his side. I asked about neonatal care at home and she said with the new developments, he can’t survive off the IV drip. She said she doesn’t think another 12 hours will get him to the point where he can come off the fluids, and he also has some swelling and bruising on the right side of his head — she said could be some brain swelling. She also suspects he might be septic. Laurie and I are going in about an hour and we’ll be with him when they euthanize. I’m so heartbroken. “

Please keep Simba’s foster, care team at VEG, and everyone that got to know and love precious Simba in your thoughts. Thank you to everyone who donated and allowed us to fight so hard for him. We wish the outcome could have been different.

Update on sweet Simba. He is fighting so hard so we are continuing to fight for him. He is still being closely monitored because his glucose continues to be unstable but, we are optimistic. Thank you to everyone who has donated towards his care. Today’s estimate for an additional night of care is a little over $700, both yesterday’s and today’s estimates will be posted on the original fundraiser post from yesterday. ... See MoreSee Less

🚨🚨Help Us Save Simba and Knuckles🚨🚨

We at Barker Rescue Project have had a very eventful week and we desperately need your help.

We don't like to beg, but these are big hits financially, as well as emotionally, in the middle of kitten season when most rescues are bleeding money to care for and vet all the requests for kitten intakes and TNR efforts.

Simba is @kathy hadel 4 week old foster that was found unresponsive this morning and was thought to have passed. He had just started deworming and sometimes as the worms/parasites die off they release toxins that can overwhelm a baby kitty's little system. Kat was at our P3 event with Alainah so her sister, Laurie, was the one who found him and was waiting for Kat to get home after the event to say her goodbyes. Then, before Kat made it home, miraculously Laurie saw an agonal breath and realized he was still alive. She started applying karo syrup to his gums every few minutes and rushed him over to @VEG for emergency care to see if we could save his life or at least help him transition peacefully. Amazingly he was able to be warmed and started to show more signs of life. Currently he is being admitted and is fighting for his little life in an overnight admission. We are quoted $1900 so far but we HAVE to fight for him. You can donate at our linktree or call directly to VEG under Simba 864-252-9520

Knuckles, a kitty we jointly pulled from GCAC with @comfort cats recently saw the vet again for his ongoing head tilt and issues. He had teeth extractions and is back on antibiotics for continued ear infection. We have posted his quote below with updated photos of him. A portion of this fundraiser will be directed towards his bill. If youd like to specify which kitty youd like your donation to go towards feel free to do so as you donate via method of choice.

Thank you for continuing to support us as we try to save as many lives as we can, even the complicated and seemingly lost ones 🤍💚

Cats of the day are Joja (black and white male) and Junimo (black female)
They are brother and sister and would do well in a home together or on their own (or with another one of their siblings you’ll meet later in the week 😉)

These babies are right around 3 months old and are ready to find their forever! They’re spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, current on flea prevention and microchipped!

Adoption fee is $125 each or $200 for a pair!!

Email us for more information!

Meet Biscuit and Gravy 💚
These boys are so playful and cuddly and they absolutely love each other! They are still a few weeks out from their neuter date but, we wanted to start the forever home search a little early in hopes we could find the perfect home that wants to welcome both babies!

If you think your home could use some more entertainment and adorableness, email us for an adoption application!

Meet Jojo, Tanner, and Blitz! These babies appeared on a family’s porch one day and when they went back to look at their cameras they saw momma walking them up and then leaving without them. They haven’t seen momma again but, they have been taking good care of the kittens. These babies will be getting spayed and neutered as soon as we can get them appointments and then they will be ready to go to new homes!
Jojo- male- super duper sweet and purrs all the time!
Tanner- male- a little bit more reserved but, sweet and full of purrs once he gets to know you.
Blitz- female- she’s a good blend between her brothers, she’s less reserved than Tanner but, slightly less outgoing than Jojo.

If you are interested in any of these babies please email us at thebarkerrescueproject@gmail.com

Meet Cayenne! She is the sole surviving kitten of her litter from a very sad neglect situation. She has been through a lot in her little life so far so she is a little bit shy and learning to trust humans. She loves to play with her toys and once adjusted to a new cat, enjoys playing and snuggling to sleep. Shes becoming more and more social with humans but still a little scared of fast movements and loud noises. If youre interested in meeting Cayenne let us know by commenting or sending an email to thebarkerrescueproject@gmail.com ... See MoreSee Less

Sweet Garbanzo is back on the adoption market! His previous adopter hadn't had a cat before and quickly realized, despite loving him, that her allergies were too much despite medications. She had to make the tough decision to return him to us. We assured her he would go to a wonderful home! She said he liked to greet her at the door when she got home from work and snuggle at night sleeping right beside her. If youre looking for a playful cuddle bug, Garbanzo is your guy!
